Rare Convergence: Annular Solar Eclipse and Major Global Holidays

Cultural and spiritual traditions worldwide are interconnected with astrological cycles

By Sun☉Rah6 min read

The February 2026 Annular Solar Eclipse is a rare convergence in which a major eclipse aligns with Lunar New Year, Ramadan, and Ash Wednesday within a 48-hour window, while Saturn and Neptune conjoin in Aries days later—an unprecedented overlap of astronomical and cultural milestones.

Only a little over a month into the new year, we'll experience an Annular Solar Eclipse and the Lunar New Year on the same day. The following day brings the month of Ramadan and Ash Wednesday. Then, on February 20th, Saturn and Neptune meet in Aries—a seismic astrological event. A lot is happening at once.

Note: Here at Sunrah.io, diverse astrologers, numerologists, and global perspectives are highlighted, not to endorse specific mindsets, or points of view, but solely to elevate consciousness related to pattern discovery.

Let's get into it.

This Solar Eclipse season aligns with holidays and holy days focused on new beginnings and reflection, making it even more impactful. Whether you follow sidereal, Vedic, or Western astrology, the pattern is clear: prepare for big changes. When the Moon blocks the Sun, it's just different. It's a signal that not all is known. As the sky darkens, those of us beneath it can only observe and journey on.

There's more to this eclipse than the unknown, including connections to important nations and repeating patterns from past decades. For more insight, tune into our special eclipse podcast episode. Keep in mind, eclipses have often shaped global events and affect those with planets or close aspects to them.

I must highlight the many dedicated astrologers who work hard to provide just-in-time information, often for free, while juggling consulting, writing, and adapting to digital changes. One long-time astrologer is Annie, founder of cafeastrology.com, also listed here, who has been a reliable source for astrology insights, including planetary overviews and eclipse cycles, for decades. The snapshot below, along with additional information on the eclipse, can be found on her site.

The upcoming Annular Solar Eclipse on February 17th carries concentrated energy involving Aquarius, Pisces, and Aries. There are four planets in Aquarius, forming a stellium, and Pluto is the leading planet. Pluto leads and the Sun is the final planet. This is sounding the alarm on power plays specific to legislative agendas, group identity, advanced technologies, and the need for transformation in these areas. The eclipse, as the final depositors, hints at something being obscured from view. All is not what it seems- per usual. There's more to discover ahead, and what better time than for holiday events, inviting new beginnings up next?

Spring Festival (Lunar New Year)

One of this month's biggest celebrations is the Spring Festival, or Chunjie 春节 (chūnjié), which means spring and festival or new chapter. This Lunar New Year honors the Fire Horse and is a public holiday in China, giving many people time off to celebrate. In Chinese astrology, time is divided into 12 slots. The Horse takes the "Wu" or seventh slot, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, when the sun is highest in the sky, much like the Midheaven in astrology. The Horse zodiac also has a charming backstory; you can read more about it here.

Ramadan

The following day, the month of Ramadan begins for all those observing. Ramadan, meaning 'scorching heat' in Arabic, is observed annually as one of the five pillars of Islam. Kicking off the holy month, it is the most significant time of the Islamic calendar. During this time, the race's pace slows a bit in favor of introspection and gratitude for being, rather than the ordinary pace of consumption and doing. It's time to revel in culture and commune with others, so daily schedules and food consumption habits are altered. After sunset, the action of being alive is rewarded with special events and the like.

Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday also marks the beginning of Holy Week on February 18th this year, but that isn't always the case. Known as the start of Lent, its date may vary from year to year, depending on Easter. Ash Wednesday carries deep meaning, with themes of humility, conversion, and new beginnings. Those celebrating are empowered to go inward through traditional events usually held during Mass. Although it is honored in various ways around the world, the imposition of ashes, in which priests cross the forehead with ashes, is common. It is ultimately a time for reflection.

Questions for Deeper Exploration

  • How will the Saturn-Neptune conjunction in Aries affect individuals or world events?
  • Will this eclipse influence me?
  • What are some examples of past eclipses impacting global events or patterns?
  • Why is it not recommended to perform rituals or practices during an eclipse?

I'll address these in the Special Eclipse Episode ahead.

Wishing you reflection, renewed perspective, and fresh beginnings.
